May Movie Prediction: Iron Man 3 for the Title

Reviewing an ongoing national online poll, along with demand for related party supplies, at Shindigz we predict Iron Man 3 will beat The Great Gatsby and other May movie releases at the box office.

Iron Man 3 is a Huge Hit

The Hollywood summer movie season is off to a huge start at the box office in May with a variety of sequels and retelling of classics. It’s been nearly 40 years since the previous telling of The Great Gatsby, so this isn’t really a sequel. Fast and Furious 6, and The Hangover 3 will be attempting to pull their fans back to the theater. Trekies are also a loyal group who are waiting for the next installment of Star Trek. The latest Star Trek film, Into The Darkness debuts at the end of May.

But the leader is Iron Man 3 which has captured the box office title two weeks in a row. The appeal of Iron Man 3 spans generations from younger children and their parents to older generations since Iron Man first appeared in comic books 50 years ago.

Anyone can host a Hollywood themed event and invite everyone from Marilyn Monroe to Iron Man to the party.

And the Oscar Goes to… Wait It’s a Tie!

Oscar race for best pictures is too close to call according to Shindigz party poll35mm slide frame

Could it happen again? The first tie vote in official Academy Awards balloting was back in the 1930’s, even before the advent of the Oscar statue as the trophy.

Ties have popped up a few times since. One of the most notable was the 41st Academy Awards show broadcast in 1969. That was the year that Ingrid Bergman announced from the stage at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion of the Los Angeles Music Center, “It’s a Tie!” as both Katherine Hepburn and Barbra Streisand shared the award for Best Actress. However, only Streisand took the stage to thank the first world wide television audience, as Hepburn skipped the ceremony that year.

This year marks the first that members of the Academy are able to cast their ballots online. The votes are now in and the stars, producers, directors, and studios now wait until the telecast on Sunday evening, February 24th for the results.

Shindigz, a leading party supplies provider, has been asking its party planner shoppers who they believe will take home this year’s Oscar for Best Picture. With over 5,000 votes cast this month in an online poll, the current tally indicates there may be another tie in the making.

Leading the voting for Best Picture are Lincoln and Les Miserables, we have only 3 votes separating them just days before the big event. And Argo is only 20 votes behind in third place.

“We could have another tie for Best Picture,” predicts Jacquie Downey, Director of Sales and Marketing for Shindigz. With three strong film contenders, wouldn’t that cap off a grand Hollywood party.”

For now, only the accountants at PricewaterhouseCoopers know for sure who will win when the envelope is opened live Sunday night on ABC television.

In the meantime, relive the previous Best Picture winners and share this see how many of these films you and your Oscar Party guests can name!

Set the Stage with a Personalized Hollywood Dance

Last year, for the 83rd Annual Academy Awards, the event planning was a major exercise in project management, as the theater that the awards were held in seated 3300 people and the after party alone required hiring 900 employees. Without a doubt, this year’s Academy Awards (being held in just a few days!) will be just as gala an event. In that vein, I’ve been thinking of ways that you can make your next big party as ostentatious as the Oscars, while maintaining a more Main Street budget.  Start with an eye toward personalizing your party.

Hollywood Stars

Remininscent of old Hollywood and Academy Awards glamour combined, invite your guests to your next red-carpet event in style. Match your invitations with a grand entrance on Hollywood Sidewalk Stars in front of the red carpet and paparazzi. Don’t forget to have your guests photos taken on the way in to the big event, just like the real Hollywood celebs, in front of your official, Red Carpet Photo Op Personalized Standee. A Plastic Red Rope Railing Scene Setter will also help with this look. Your guests will feel like they were at the Oscars!

While the “paparazzi” are snapping their photos, welcome guests with the Grammy winning sounds of Skrillex and LMFAO, or for a more classic feel, get your guests “In the Mood” with Benny Goodman!

A few other classic song ideas are:

  • Howard Keel, Anything You Can Do
  • Marilyn Monroe, Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend
  • Nat King Cole, Unforgettable
  • Glenn Miller, Rhapsody in Blue
  • Cole Porter, Let’s Do It.

Once you’ve got your guests coming down your red carpet, greet them with some over-the-top sparkly “bling” before they come in through the doors. After passing through beautiful glitter slip columns, make the ladies feel Hollywood G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S with some strings of pearls and diamond rings. Top hats, VIP passes, and gangster fedoras would also all make excellent wearable favors to get guests in the spirit of Hollywood to start the party.

Star style

Use decorating fabrics to disguise bleachers, or use chair covers and sashes to create a Hollywood black tie affair. It’s realy the little touches that make an event sparkle. I can remember truly magical nights in a high school gymnasium that are memorable still, because the event coordinators took the time to transform that oh-so-ordinary place into an impossible fantasy evening.

Personalized playing cards at each table give guests something else to do when taking a break from the dancing and fabulous entertainment. Seated around this star centerpiece (continuing the theme from outside!)under beautiful movie lights, you will create a night to remember of your own in true Hollywood style.

Five Celebrity Venues for Weddings and Parties

Celebrities capture the party-planning and decorating pulse.  Jacquie Downey, Director of Sales and Marketing at Shindigz, a leading online party supplies retailer, remarks that “in the process of analyzing trends in party decor, we found hot venues that celebrities like.  By looking at 200+ wedding and engagement announcements, the Shindigz team narrowed down five, hot spots that create buzz and are available to the public for weddings, events, and parties.”

Necker Island – British Virgin Islands

The ultimate destination wedding resort, this 74-acre private island is Sir Richard Branson’s home and hideaway.  Last year, this luxurious resort hosted Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo’s secluded wedding.  Necker Island accommodates up to 28 guests with larger wedding parties support by working with neighboring islands.

Kunde Family Estate – Kenwood, CA

This 100+ year old, 5th generation family estate is known for its wine and hosting memorable weddings. Mountain top views, stone ruins and wine aging caves carved into volcanic lava flows are among the choices for the ceremony and reception.  Actor Seth Rogen and Lauren Miller married at the winery in October.

Sowden House – Los Angeles, CA

Designed by Lloyd Wright, son of famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the historic home pays homage to Mayan culture and reflects the elements of nature. It was featured in Scorsese’s film “Aviator” and was the setting for former “Dexter” star Julie Benz’s marriage to marketing executive Rich Orosco last Cinco de Mayo.

Arlington Hall at Lee Park – Dallas, TX

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and former Miss Missouri Candice Crawford chose stately Arlington Hall at Lee Park for their nuptials.  Recently renovated, the hall and park make a peaceful setting nestled in Dallas’ historic Uptown area.  Many call the site the front lawn of Dallas because of the majestic trees and beautiful lawns.

Front Porch Farms – Ashland City, TN

Country music insiders know this antebellum-style estate located west of Nashville.  It’s fitting that Lady Antebellum’s Dave Haywood wed Kelli Cashiola amid the picturesque countryside . Couple it with Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton’s engagement party that was held here and Front Porch Farms is the place to ride your county-themed wedding!

Top Five After-Prom Party Themes

Keep the After-Prom Party Going With a Theme!

Many schools create some sort of after-prom celebration for their students.  Some schools create an after-prom breakfast for their students, too.  If your school’s prom has a theme, the theme for your after-prom has to be completely different.  There are a wide variety of themes you could choose for your school’s after-prom party—everything from Casino Night to Mardi-Gras to Hollywood

The Top Five After-Prom Party Themes

  1. Casino Night After-Prom Party Theme: This is a great way to kick back and relax after a great prom.  You can set up a ton of tables and create a casino atmosphere with a wide variety of games (Texas Hold ‘Em, Blackjack, a roulette wheel, etc).  You can even work favors in—personalized poker chips are a great way for guests to remember not only their prom, but also their after-prom.  Also, as your guests enter their after-prom, hand out raffle tickets and create a few giveaways.
  2. Mardi-Gras After-Prom Party Theme:  Make your guests feel like they’re on Bourbon Street in New Orleans!  Use gold, green, and purple balloons in every corner and along the walls to help transform your after-prom party.  Hand out green, gold, and purple beads and feathered masks as favors; you can also use the raffle ticket idea for this after-prom party.  Blast jazz music and let your guests continue to dance the night away while they get a chance to experience a different culture—you can even serve Creole-based or Cajun food and let them try something new!  Your guests probably haven’t had much to eat since dinner before prom, so offer jambalaya, beignets, or a variety of other foods.
  3. Hollywood After-Prom Party Theme:  What better way to relax than with a fun movie night?  Send out film roll invitations ahead of time that your guests will turn in when they enter—then, as they enter, put each guest’s name into a raffle for giveaways before the movies start.  After they turn in their invitations, give each guest a bottle of water (with a personalized label), and a bag of popcorn as they enter your after-prom party.  Then, after all the guests have arrived, raffle off personalized candy jars and personalized cookie tins filled with movie snacks!  Finally, let your after-prom guests take pictures with Marilyn Monroe or Elvis Pressley standees—then give them Hollywood-themed picture frames when they leave!
  4. 1950’s Sock Hop After-Prom Party Theme: This is a great way for all your guests to get some fresh air after a stuffy indoor prom.  Light up your school’s parking lot and get a few grills fired up!  Blast some old 50’s rock and roll and let your guys show off their cars while all the girls gossip.  Cook burgers and hot dogs to serve with chips, pretzels, and root beer floats.
  5. City After-Prom Party Theme: Set up little stations around your after-prom area to represent different clubs and different restaurants found throughout big cities—you could even make a few hot dog carts!  Put all this against a city backdrop or wall hanging and make your after-prom guests feel as though they’ve been transported!  At each different “club” station, create a different punch or juice combination for your after-prom guests to enjoy.  While most clubs have matchbooks as souvenirs, give your after-prom guests personalized mint tins and personalized lollipops.

Whatever you choose for your prom, there are many themes to choose from for your after-prom—you can either make it match your prom theme or you can make it a completely different theme! Whichever way you choose to go, remember to make your after-prom a fun way for your guests to relax and unwind after prom night.
